Ion nitriding is a process method of preparing nitriding layer by plasma glow discharge in ion nitriding equipment, so as to improve the wear resistance, fatigue resistance, corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance of workpiece surface.
Ion nitriding is divided into three stages. The first stage is the generation of active nitrogen atoms, the second stage is the migration of active nitrogen atoms from the medium to the workpiece surface, and the third stage is the transfer of nitrogen atoms from the workpiece surface to the core. The mechanisms of the first stage ionization and the third stage diffusion are relatively clear. The mechanism of how the active nitrogen atoms migrate from the medium to the workpiece surface in the second stage is still controversial, and the "sputter deposition" theory is generally accepted. The specific principle is as follows: when high-energy ions bombard the workpiece surface, iron atoms splash out from the matrix and react with active nitrogen atoms in space to form iron nitride. Iron nitride molecules are condensed and deposited on the workpiece surface. At a certain nitriding temperature, iron nitride is decomposed into iron nitride compounds with low nitrogen content, nitrogen atoms are released, and iron nitride continuously forms a nitriding layer with a certain thickness.
Advantages of ion nitriding technology
