In addition, roots blower is started when the air door is fully open, and tar resistance is greater in cold conditions, so roots blower is a typical heavy load starting load.
The 6kV high-voltage circuit breaker of the original system is directly sent to the motor, and there is no other soft starting equipment. The high-voltage motor and roots blower are directly connected by a coupling wheel. Due to heavy load starting and high resistance of tar in cold state, the starting current is large when starting directly, which is easy to cause circuit breaker tripping, and it needs multiple closing to start. And before start-up, it is necessary to heat roots blower with high temperature steam. In addition, direct starting may affect the internal air gap of Roots blower.
Due to the large selection of Roots blower, the power plant often does not need roots blower to operate at full load, so the fan has to open the return valve, resulting in low efficiency and serious waste. In order to improve the operation efficiency of the gas compressor, the plant leaders decided to transform the equipment and add two sets of soft start equipment with speed regulation function.
