Piston pumps are often used in large vacuum equipment because of their structural characteristics and much larger capacity than rotary vane pumps. There are two types of piston pump: single stage and double stage. The limit pressure of single-stage pump is less than 0.6Pa for small pump, 1.3Pa for large pump and 0.06Pa for double-stage pump. At present, the pumping speed of bipolar 2H piston vacuum pump is 300 L/S.

Because the rotating mass of the piston pump has greater eccentricity, if the piston does not have a good mass balance, it will produce greater vibration in operation. But the trajectory of the revolving center of mass of the pump is a closed curve with complex shape, so it is difficult for small factories to achieve complete balance of the inertia force of the piston pump. The piston mass balance can be achieved by dynamic balance test and double or triple cylinder structure.

It can be widely used in vacuum impregnation and vacuum drying of transformers, wires and cables, capacitors in power industry. It is an ideal vacuum equipment for vacuum coating, vacuum smelting, vacuum heat treatment, vacuum oil filtration, freeze-drying and aeronautical simulation test. If a small amount of water vapor or dust is sucked, a filter device should be installed.

Structure and characteristics

Roots piston vacuum unit is a vacuum unit composed of ordinary Roots pump as the main pump and piston vacuum pump as the front pump in series. By means of vacuum relay or electric contact pressure gauge, the automatic starting and closing of Roots pump piston pump and automatic overload protection are realized. The whole unit is installed on a rack, equipped with pipes, valves, electrical operation control box, cooling water pipe system. The unit is compact in structure and easy to use.

According to the size of the vacuum system and the limit pressure, the nominal pumping speed ratio between the pumps of the vacuum unit is generally between 4:10:1. The former is more suitable than the latter for larger vacuum system and long-term operation under lower inlet pressure or limit vacuum. In order to prevent the return of oil when the piston pump stops, this series of units are equipped with solenoid inflatable valve on the front inlet pipeline. Its action is linked with the motor of the front pump. When the piston pump stops, it inflates gas into the pump mouth to ensure that the vacuum oil in the piston pump returns to the tank, and at the same time, it prevents the vacuum system from being contaminated by vacuum oil.
