Diffusion welding with mold cooling
Application of diffusion welding with mold cooling
The vacuum diffusion welding process is a revolutionary and innovative application for the mold industry. For the design and manufacture of large accompanying cooling molds, the vacuum diffusion welding process can shorten the die design cycle, simplify the die design process, free from the restriction of material type, provide the cooling efficiency and strength of the mold, reduce the cost of mold design and manufacture and the production cost of end users.
Features of diffusion welding products with mold cooling
Vacuum diffusion welding is a kind of solid welding, which mainly causes plastic deformation on the contact surface of two or more objects under certain temperature and pressure, and spreads the atoms between the surfaces to be welded to each other after a certain period of time.
Processing process: generally, product design -- parts processing -- pre-welding cleaning -- assembly -- in-furnace diffusion welding -- is completed (for external shape treatment or surface treatment, secondary CNC processing or heat treatment process can be conducted).
For the mold industry, vacuum diffusion welding technology will be a revolutionary and innovative application. It will not replace the existing mold manufacturing processes, such as 3D printing and traditional CNC processing, as well as vacuum brazing, but will be an effective supplement. For example, for the design and manufacture of large accompanying cooling molds, the vacuum diffusion welding process can shorten the die design cycle, simplify the die design process, free from the restriction of material type, provide the cooling efficiency and strength of molds, reduce the cost of mold design and manufacture and the production cost of end users, etc.
Advantages of vacuum diffusion welding over 3D printing:
A wider range of materials can be selected and standard profiles can be used directly.
The size of the workpiece can be larger, and the maximum size can reach 900 (width) *1000 (depth) *500 (height) mm;
Better workpiece performance, such as strength, corrosion resistance, metallurgical performance very close to the parent material;
The production efficiency is higher. No matter the size of the parts, the process time can be basically controlled within 12 hours and multiple products can be processed in one batch.
Both vacuum diffusion welding and brazing belong to welding. The biggest difference between them is that soldering requires solder and diffusion welding does not. 3D printing is a kind of laser sintering process. The strength of the product cannot reach the post-welding strength of diffusion welding due to the limitation of raw materials and process features. In addition, the range of raw materials for 3D printing is limited, and the size of the product is also limited. Vacuum diffusion welding is more suitable for medium and large moulds. If the small moulds are mass quantized, the vacuum diffusion welding can be considered, because the vacuum diffusion welding equipment can complete the welding of multiple products simultaneously in the same process time of the same furnace.
It is more suitable to use vacuum diffusion welding process for the products with high die strength and large welding area and difficult to process in water channel.
